Queerway

Project explanation and callout for LGBTQ+ interviewees in Wales

CALL OUT FOR INTERVIEWEES

Leeway are looking for people from the LGBTQ+ community in Wales to interview for their next small scale R&D. Queerway is a verbatim song cycle, led by Associate Artist Luke Hereford, which aims to explore the lives of Queer individuals in Wales. We will use a series of verbatim interviews with Queer individuals who have direct connections to the Rhondda Valleys, to create a song cycle which   directly links to Queer people living and coming from the Valleys. Queerway will be a celebration of Queer, Welsh life, and it’s many different iterations and meanings.

We are looking for people to interview who meet the following criteria:

  • LGBTQ+ people from / living in RCT
  • LGBTQ+ people originally from RCT, living in Cardiff
  • LGBTQ+ people originally from RCT, living outside of Wales
  • Transgender people from / living in the Rhondda
  • Transgender people from / living in Cardiff
  • Parents of LGBTQ+ people from / living in RCT

Our criteria is not restricted to the above list, and if you feel your voice would be beneficial to the overall message of the project as it is detailed above, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

As interviewees, you will have a conversation with our Associate Artist, Luke Hereford, over Zoom which will last no more than thirty minutes. This will be recorded and the recording will be used only in the privacy of a rehearsal space and heard only by the project collaborators. We will be using the transcript of all of our interviews as initial content for the song cycle, and verbatim words from your interview may end up being used as lyrical content. To protect individuals, we are instating a blanket rule that any names will be changed or removed from the final artistic content, to protect any interviewees who may be vulnerable. As interviewees we will also offer a cooling off period in which you can ask for any portion of your interview to be re-recorded or retracted.

If you are interested, please get in touch with Luke, telling us which of the above or additional criteria you fit into.

We will begin interviews the week commencing 31st May via Zoom, and keep applications open, continuing conversations until 23rd June. Drop us a line by this date to have a conversation!

If you have any more questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
