THE LAST FIVE YEARS

Written and composed by JASON ROBERT BROWN
A hit both off-Broadway and internationally, The Last Five Years comes to Wales for the very first time. This ground-breaking production, directed by Angharad Lee, combines an emotionally powerful score with sign language and beautiful movement by award-winning choreographer Mark Smith, who is Deaf. This intimate musical charting New Yorkers Cathy and Jamie's passionate five-year relationship is an affecting tale of love found and lost.  By turns funny and poignant, with catchy tunes and a clever chronological twist, The Last Five Years will keep you riveted from beginning to end… or should that be from end to beginning?
Every performance of The Last Five Years is accessible to D/deaf, deafened and hard of hearing audience members, with closed captioning and integrated sign language to be enjoyed by all.

THE LAST FIVE YEARS

Ysgrifennwyd a chyfansoddwyd gan JASON ROBERT BROWN
Ar ôl llwyddiant eithriadol oddi ar Broadway ac yn rhyngwladol, daw The Last Five Years i Gymru am y tro cyntaf erioed. Cyfuna’r cynhyrchiad arloesol yma sgôr ddirdynnol gydag iaith arwyddion a dawnsfeydd hardd y coreograffydd mawr ei glod, Mark Smith sydd yn Fyddar. Mae’r sioe gerdd onest yma am gariad a thorcalon yn dilyn hynt Cathy a Jamie, cariadon o Efrog Newydd, gan daflu golau ar bob cam o’u perthynas pum mlynedd tanbaid. Gan blethu’r doniol a’r teimladwy, gyda chaneuon bachog a chronoleg stori glyfar, bydd The Last Five Years yn eich cadw chi ar flaen eich sedd o’r dechrau un hyd at y diwedd… neu dylwn ddweud o’r diwedd i’r dechrau…
Mae pob perfformiad o The Last Five Years yn hygyrch i aelodau cynulleidfa sy’n drwm eu clyw neu’n fyddar, gyda chapsiynau agored ac iaith arwyddion yn rhan annatod o’r sioe.

Raffie Julien (Cathy, dancer)

Raffie Julien is a Professional Deaf Dancer. She is 27 and was born and raised in Manchester. Training: Shena Simon College, Manchester; DanceZone, Ancoats; North West Theatre College, Droylsden. Credits include: The Who’s ‘Tommy’ Musical, UK Tour, directed by Kerry Michael; ‘The International Dance Show’, Cyprus; ‘The Michael Jackson Show’, Crete; The Dorm-room music video for Suli Break; Commercial for Mars Bar. Born profoundly deaf, at the age of 3, Raffie was hugely influenced and inspired by Michael Jackson. She was amazed by how he danced and performed flawlessly, which made her want to be like him. ‘You’re a normal young girl, just without hearing’ her mum always said, and these words were constant inspiration to Raffie to pursue her dream of becoming a dancer. She hopes that one day, she will start a dance company for deaf performers and become a role model for young deaf children. Raffie would like to take this opportunity to thank her parents for all their love and support over the years – without which she would not be here performing today, with the wonderful company of The Last Five Years.
Mae Raffie Julien yn Ddawnswraig Fyddar Proffesiynol. Mae’n 27ain oed a chafwyd ei geni a’i magu ym Manceinion. Cafodd ei syfyrdanu gan ei ddull o ddawnsio a’i berfformiadau anhygoel a gwnaethpwyd iddi hi fod yn union fel fe. “Rwyt yn ferch ifanc normal, dim ond heb dy glyw” meddai ei mam wrthi bob amser,ac roedd y geiriau yma yn gyson yn wirioneddol ysbrydoledig i Raffie wrth iddi wireddu ei breuddwyd a dod yn ddawnswraig. Ei gobaith ydy dechrau cwmni dawns i berfformwyr byddar ac ysbrydoli pobl ifanc eraill fel hi. Hoffai Raffie gymryd y cyfle unigryw yma i ddiolch i’w rhieni am yr holl gariad a chefnogaeth a dderbyniodd dros y blynyddoedd- hebddynt, ni fuasai’n perfformio yma heddiw, gyda’r cwmi a’r cast dawnus o’r The Last Five Years.
